Fire destroys Clear Creek home

A blaze destroyed a mobile home and shop on Clear Creek Road Sunday night, but a couple and their adult son escaped unharmed.

The fire started in a shop at about 6:30 p.m. then spread to a mobile home, according to Poulsbo Fire Department Spokesperson Jody Matson.

The couple, a 40-year-old-woman and her 48-year-old husband, saw flames coming from the roof of their shop and warned their 25-year-old son, who was sleeping in a nearby trailer, Matson said.

More than 20 firefighters from Poulsbo, Navy Region Northwest, North Kitsap Fire and Rescue and Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue responded. It took nearly an hour to bring the flames under control.

Matson said car projects and related debris on the property helped fuel the fire.

Matson said all of the couple’s belongings and home were lost and they did not have insurance. The couple’s dog, a rottweiler/chow mix, ran off during the fire but was later found.

The Poulsbo Fire Marshal has not yet determined the cause of the fire.
