Fiber artist showcasing work in Poulsbo

Fiber artist Michelle Johnson is exhibiting at the Verksted Gallery in downtown Poulsbo as a guest artist throughout February.

With 30 years of experience creating 2-D and sculptural felt pieces from wool, a news release states her love for fiber began at the Kansas City Art Institute. While taking other classes, she wandered by the fiber studio daily and was intrigued by the color, texture and patterning. “Hand-crafted felt has been my focus since I took a workshop to satisfy my curiosity, and I fell head over heels in wooly fluff,” Johnson said.

Johnson says felt is “wool, water and oomph. It is a marriage of materials with wool fibers. It is such a wonderfully malleable medium that I can create a wall piece or vessel that is sturdy and quite strong or a garment that is featherweight and fluid.”
