Three family members defended themselves with trash cans against an attack with a 10-inch knife July 11.
A 31-year-old Bremerton man was in Kitsap County Superior Court July 14 charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
Bail was $1.5 million. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Court papers say Kitsap deputies arrested the man July 11 at 10:01 p.m. in the 3200 block of NW Plaza Road in Silverdale.
When officers arrived at the Target store, a number of people were running away. The main aggressor had a 10-inch knife and was handcuffed. He had gone after three men who ended up defending themselves with trash cans. The dad saw the two brothers being attacked so he went to help.
Teen arrested for rape at marina
A 17-year-old boy from Belfair was being charged as an adult in Superior Court July 17 for rape and being held on $500,000 bail after being arrested on a warrant from last week.
He faces life in prison and a $50,000 fine.
Court documents say Bremerton police responded to the 1800 block of Thompson Drive at the Bridgeview Marina July 5. The victim said while they had been in a relationship for six months after meeting on Instagram, this instance was rape as she met with him to break up.
Officers were able to identify the victim using video from a nearby business. They tracked down the car, got a picture of the driver off the license, and the victim identified him as the suspect.
Sister saves woman being strangled in vehicle
A sister intervened when a woman was being strangled with a seat belt in a vehicle July 11.
A 44-year-old man from Belfair was in Superior Court July 15 charged with assault. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Court documents say Kitsap deputies responded July 11 at 7:09 p.m. to the 12600 block of Lindi Lane SW in Port Orchard.
The victim said she has been with the suspect for two years. Earlier, he broke her car window. They argued, and he wanted her to apologize. When she wouldn’t, he used a seat belt to strangle her. The sister punched the suspect and screamed at him to get out of the car. The victim said they had a history of domestic violence.
Man chokes partner, who gouges his eye
A man’s partner gouged his eye to stop him from choking him July 14.
A 39-year-old man was in Superior Court July 15 facing 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine for assault.
Court documents say Port Orchard police arrested the man July 14 at 3:31 p.m. in the 1300 block of Wendeall Avenue SE.
The suspect was possibly off his medication for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and was having an episode because he thought the victim stole his identity.
The two have been dating since March and are partners who live together. The victim said the suspect choked him for about 30 seconds, so he gouged his eye to escape. The suspect said the victim tried to kill him, so he had to restrain him.
Man charged with sex crimes involving minors
A 59-year-old Port Orchard man was in Superior Court July 17 charged with three sex crimes, including depictions of young girls from 4- to 10-years old.
Bail was $250,000. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine for dealing depictions of a minor; and the same penalty each for two counts of possessing depictions of a minor.
The Kitsap sheriff’s office received a tip March 24 from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a local IP address was used to share 20 files depicting child sexual abuse material on private chat messages.
Mom crawls on floor to avoid stalker
A mom being stalked by a former boyfriend resorted to crawling on the floor near windows in her home so he couldn’t see her.
A 43-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court July 17 charged with stalking and violation of a court order. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine on the first charge and a year in jail and a $5,000 fine on the second.
Court papers say Kitsap deputies were told by the victim that she and the suspect had dated for seven years, but he keeps bothering her despite the no-contact order. He used five different numbers to call July 14 20 times in a three-hour period. She also took photos of his car in her parking lot. She gets so afraid of him watching her that she crawls on the floor under windows so he can’t see her.
Later, the mom and her two girls were in a vehicle when the suspect cut them off, forcing them to stop. The suspect was apprehended by officers.
Post office thief caught by deputies
A 42-year-old Port Orchard man was in Superior Court July 17 charged with two counts of theft.
He faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine on each charge.
Court records say Kitsap deputies arrested the man July 16 at 8:10 p.m. in the 5000 block of Highway 303 in Bremerton. The suspect’s vehicle was involved in three vehicle prowls and thefts from post office trucks, along with a burglary at the Central Kitsap fire station.
A deputy saw a car with new license plates at the gas pumps at Fred Meyer. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license. An envelope was left in the back seat of the deputy’s vehicle. In it were seven bank cards with different names; a signed check; a Google Play card; and dates of births and social security numbers on six of the seven pieces of mail. Some of the mail victims said their mail had been stolen.
Can’t sell stolen cycle at business
A 41-year-old man from Tacoma was in Superior Court July 14 after earlier trying to sell a stolen vehicle to a business.
The man is charged with trafficking stolen property and possession of a stolen vehicle. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine on each charge. Bail was $110,000.
Court documents show that Bremerton police responded July 11 at 11:22 a.m. when an employee of Brothers Powersports at 5205 1st St. reported that someone tried to sell them a stolen motorcycle. The suspect was detained.
Man assaults woman despite court order
A 26-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court July 15 charged with burglary and unlawfully possessing a firearm.
He faces life in prison and a $50,000 fine on the first charge, and five years and a $10,000 fine on the second. Bail was $50,000.
Court papers say Kitsap deputies arrested the man July 14 at 3:26 p.m. in the 5100 block of Mariah Lane NE in Bremerton. The suspect was living with the victim and her children in violation of a court order. He pushed her to the ground and up against a wall, injuring her. The victim said the suspect also retrieved a handgun from a closet, which also was not allowed by the court order.
Fail to register
A 35-year-old Bremerton man who failed to register as a sex offender was in Superior Court July 16.
Bail was $50,000. He faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Court documents say the man was convicted in Kitsap in 2011 for possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Upon release, he was to register for 15 years, but because of crimes since then, he’s now required to do so through July 24, 2034.
