Falling wires leave Kingston in the dark for seven hours

KINGSTON — Electrical problems sparked power outages and a fire investigation Monday in Kingston.

Wires fell across the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Central Avenue at 7:30 a.m., landing on a parked vehicle, according to a North Kitsap Fire and Rescue release. Puget Sound Energy crews arrived at 8:30 a.m. to clear the wires.

The downed wires cut power to about 1,300 Kingston customers, according to Puget Sound Energy. Power was fully restored by 2:45 p.m.

Firefighters were called to the Harbor Place Condominiums on Illinois Avenue later in the afternoon, when a resident reported a persistent burning smell. The apartments were evacuated and power was shut off to the building while crews investigated the smell.
