Explosion sounds may be heard as base performs training exercise

SILVERDALE – Navy Region Northwest and Naval Base Kitsap will be conducting a security exercise May 5-8 that is designed to implement installation capabilities in reporting, preventing, defending, and responding to security matters on and near the base.

Area residents may see smoke, hear small simulated explosive sounds or observe low-flying aircraft. The simulations are part of the training exercise and pose no risk.

This routine training exercise is designed to train and prepare Navy personnel and agency partners to respond to threats to installations and Navy assets.

It is the Navy’s policy not to discuss the specifics of force protection; therefore, the details of the exercise will not be released.
