Ernest (Ernie) Glen Staples | Passages

He honorably served his country for 31 years as a member of the Navy's Silent Service. During his service, he earned a bachelor of science in business from Florida Southern University and an MBA from the University of Southern California.

Ernest (Ernie) Glen Staples was called to heaven on July 18. He went peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.

He was 75.

Ernie was born to Ross and Elva Staples on March 22, 1939 in Tooele, Utah, and spent part of his life in North Kitsap. He graduated from Tooele High School in 1957 before enlisting in the United States Navy. He honorably served his country for 31 years as a member of the Navy’s Silent Service. During his service, he earned a bachelor of science in business from Florida Southern University and an MBA from the University of Southern California.

Ernie married Karen Cushing on Jan. 19, 1963 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They were blessed with four children, Kevin (spouse, Carolyn), Jana (spouse, Brad), Cindy (spouse, Rob), and Laura; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His sister, Judy, also survives him.

In his retirement, he enjoyed the art of fly fishing, tending to his home and yard, spending time with his children, grandchildren and close friends, and looking over the property with his faithful dog, Maggie.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sisters, Ann and Dorothy.

He was a hero to his family and country. He was a moral compass and will forever be loved and remembered.

Viewing was on July 24 at Bell Tower Funeral Home in Post Falls, Idaho, followed by funeral service on July 25 at the Washington Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, Washington.
