Emily Houston wins award at state pageant

Emily Houston, a 14-year-old freshman from John Sedgwick Junior High, was the recipient of this year’s Miss Washington Outstanding Teen's People’s Choice Award.

Emily Houston, a 14-year-old freshman from John Sedgwick Junior High, was the recipient of this year’s Miss Washington Outstanding Teen’s People’s Choice Award.

Houston, Miss West Sound’s Outstanding Teen, was among 24 statewide title holder who competed Memorial Day weekend in the Miss Washington’s Outstanding Teen Pageant which took place at the Highline Performing Arts Center in Burien.

Combining that award along with her participating scholarship, Houston came home with $340 in awards.

Miss Washington’s Outstanding Teen of 2012 Janae Calaway handed her title and crown to Haley Downey, Miss Puget Sounds’ Outstanding Teen of 2013.

Downey will go on to compete in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in Florida this August.

The Miss West Sound Scholarship Organization is now accepting applications for next year’s pageant, for both the Teen (ages 13-17) and their Miss (age 17, senior in high school to 24) programs. Information and applications can be found on their website at www.misswestsound.org.
