Election filing period closes Friday

The following offices and positions affecting the North End are currently open. Current elected officials are in parentheses:

Federal Legislative Offices:

United States Senator (Patty Murray)

United States Representative, District 1 (Jay Inslee)

State Legislative Offices:

Senator 23rd District (Betti Sheldon)

Representative, 23rd District, Position 1 (Phil Rockefeller)

Representative, 23rd District, Position 2 (Beverly Woods)

County Offices:

Kitsap County Commissioner, District 1 (Chris Endresen)

Kitsap County Commissioner, District 2 (Jan Angel)

Public Utility District Commissioner District 1 (John Armstrong)

Superior Court Judges, Positions 1-7 (Leonard W. Costello, M. Karlynn Haberly, Russell W. Hartman, Leila Mills, Anna Laurie, Theodore F. Spearman, Jay. B Roof)

Precinct Committee Officer (one representative from each major political party for each precinct)

Filings must be received by July 30.

The filing fee for each position with an annual salary of $1,000 or higher is 1 percent of the salary at the time of filing. The filing fee for positions earning less than $1,000 is $10. No filing fee is charged for non-salaried positions.

Those filing for state legislature and county offices must file with the county auditor’s office: Elections Division, 1026 Sidney Ave. Suite 175, Port Orchard, WA 98366. The phone number is (360) 337-7128. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Any candidate who wants to withdraw their candidacy after filing must do so in writing no later than Aug. 5. The state primary election will take place Sept. 14. The general election will be Nov. 2.
