Where would Oyster Plant Park be without volunteerism? Probably the exact same place that the Nelson House, Kingston’s Tiny Town and numerous projects throughout North Kitsap would be — untouched.

When the Poulsbo/North Kitsap Rotary and other community-minded volunteers stepped into the spotlight and expressed an interest in the tiny waterfront parcel, there was no doubt in our mind that success was right around the corner.

Last year, the project blossomed from a razed structure and some old pilings into a beautiful garden which showcased a scenic knoll. Students, environmentalists and folks from every walk of life pitched in to make it all happen.

Now, it’s in the final stretch. New pilings, which will support a fish-friendly floating pier, were driven earlier this week, putting the completed work tantalizingly close.

As we marvel at a park whose time has almost come,we hope the community will join us in giving thanks to those who made it happen and help us keep the site pristine for all to enjoy.
