Early morning NBK exercises scheduled for Wednesday

Civilian neighbors close to Naval Base Kitsap – Bremerton should take note that an early morning drill scheduled for tomorrow around 3 a.m. is indeed just a drill.

Neighbors can expect to hear loudspeaker announcements early Wednesday morning as part of a training exercise. The announcements are not connected to a real emergency. The announcements will begin around 3 a.m. and a series of messages will broadcast over the base’s “Giant Voice” loudspeaker system as part of a training event intended to help NBK and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility prepare for emergency responses.

Wednesday’s event is part of regularly scheduled training periodically conducted by the Navy in order to remain ready for a variety of contingencies. In order to comply with Navy training requirements, some training must be conducted outside of normal base operating hours.

While installation and shipyard officials say they regret the possibility of disturbing some residents due to the early morning hours of the training, they added that the exercise will minimize the use of the loudspeaker system as much as possible.
