Port Orchard police booked 24-year-old Jared M. Schmitz into the Kitsap County Jail on Sept. 1 after another local man, 21-year-old Corey A. Willette, told police that he’d purchased illegal drugs from him.

Police got a tip that several men were driving a maroon Malibu around a parking lot just outside of the Albertsons on Mile Hill Drive and stopping now and then, apparently to give something to the occupants of other cars in the lot.

Police located the Malibu parked in front of the Max Fitness and, when they arrived, and three adult males jumped out, according to the police report.

One officer ordered the men to remain in the car, and — although the passengers tried to get back into the car — they couldn’t because the doors were locked.

But Schmitz, the driver, ignored the order and tried to walk away, according to police.

Schmitz also refused to take his hands out of his pockets, and an officer eventually wrestled him to the ground, telling him that if he didn’t stop struggling, they would subdue him with a taser.

Schmitz continued to struggle, at which point he was tasered in his upper back and handcuffed.

A clear and orange pill splitter fell out of Schmitz’s pocket during the struggle, and police also found a large sum of cash in his pockets, according to the report.

Willette said he bought 10 methadone pills and half an oxycontin pill for $150 from Schmitz an hour earlier, and Schmitz asked him to exchange the pills for cash with the other cars in the parking lot, according to police.

The report also noted that Schmitz had about 80 Methadone pills, 50 Percocet pills and an unknown amount of Oxycotin and marijuana.

One officer looked through the windshield and reportedly saw a semi-automatic pistol in the driver’s side door pocket of the Malibu.

Schmitz’s bail was set at $55,000, and Willette is out on personal recognizance.
