The First Friday concert at Island Center Hall Feb. 3 features two acoustic guitar players, both known for their finger-picking prowess and songwriting skills: Peter Spencer and Jonathan Stratman.

Starting off the evening is Bainbridge Island guitarist Peter Spencer, whose music and original songs draw on his long association with blues and folk music.

Spencer plays locally and teaches guitar at the Island Music Guild. He has produced two albums, the folk-based “New Hope and Wise Virgins,” and the bluesier “Nobody’s Daddy.” A third CD, “Handsignal,” is slated to be released on the “Feast of Fools Day,” April 1, Spencer said.

Spencer will be joined by fretless bass player Liam Graham, who is originally from Kentucky and sings “those ‘brother style’ duets as only a Bluegrass boy can,” Spencer said.

Stratman’s career spans three decades and includes songwriting, penning commercial jingles and music for videos and documentaries. Perhaps you’ve heard his McDonald’s jingle, “Breakfast Biscuits,” or the Schucks’ tune “I Love My Truck.”

His current setlist includes a mix of original tunes (but not the jingles) plus classics from the likes of Duke Ellington, Eric Clapton and Lovin’ Spoonful-era John Sebastian.

Stratman, from Port Townsend, will be joined by his brother Michael Stratman from Bremerton on bass, Port Townsend guitarist John Koschnick and Bainbridge Island percussionist Joe Kimzey.

Spencer and Stratman perform 7:30 p.m. March 3 at Island Center Hall, 8395 Fletcher Bay Rd., Bainbridge Island.

Tickets at the door are $10 adults, $5 youth ages 6-18.

The First Friday concert series is sponsored by Bainbridge Island Metro Park and Recreation District. For advance notice of other Park and Rec sponsored events coming up visit www.biparks.org. wu
