The Greater Victoria area will receive over $1.2 million in funding from the provincial government in small community grants, announced Oak Bay-Gordon Head MLA Ida Chong.

“These grants move our government one step closer to our commitment of doubling unconditional grants to municipalities and regional districts by 2009,” said Chong.  “I am sure these grants will help these cities, districts and towns throughout Greater Victoria to provide their citizens with new services and infrastructure.”

The funding totals $1,220,628 and will be distributed to the districts, cities and towns. The District of Sooke will receive $334,557

Small Community Grants assist small and medium-sized area municipalities to fund local and basic services. The grant allocation is based on a formula with three elements: basic funding for all municipalities with a population of less than 15,000, population-based funding, and property assessment-based funding.  Regional District Grants assist regional districts with administration costs.
