Day of action – and recycling – in Kingston

“Step It Up,” a national day of climate action, takes place April 14 in the Kingston Crossing shopping center parking lot (at the corner of Hansville Road and Highway 104). This is an opportunity to recycle everything from old jeans to batteries and packing peanuts.

The local event, which takes place noon to 2 p.m., joins hundreds of rallies around the country sending a message to legislators to “Step it up, Congress! Cut Carbon 80 percent by 2050!”

Learn about local businesses that help cut environmental impacts on the earth and climate change. Emu Topsoil, a local compost facility, will give away coupons to drop off yard waste for free. Lucky Star Consignment Clothing will take clothing and accessories to resell and donate for the Kitsap Foster Care Association. Radio Shack will be accepting batteries for recycling, and Kingston Mail and Print will accept packing materials.

To add fun to the event, Pine Cone Gift shop will have crafters making art out of recycled materials and games like “Wheel of Fortune” with prizes including energy saving light bulbs.
