County approves ordinance regulating adult-themed coffee stands

Commissioners passed an ordinance that requires adult espresso stands to install an 8-foot-high fence or landscape buffer

Adult-themed coffee stand owners — old and new — in unincorporated Kitsap County will have to make some changes at their businesses.

On Jan. 14, commissioners passed an ordinance that requires adult espresso stands to install an 8-foot-high fence or landscape buffer in front of windows that face the street or other businesses, blocking views by the public. The structures must be approved by the county Department of Community Development.

They will also post signs — before the vehicle can reach the window — warning customers about their scantily clad employees and all employees be at least 18 years old.

Stands have 60 days from the passing of the ordinance to comply with changes.

The ordinance also states new stands cannot be within 800 feet of churches, libraries, schools, child-care facilities, public parks, public or private nurseries or preschools, residential zones, youth community centers or other adult-oriented businesses.
