Council committees get a fresh new look for 2006

POULSBO — When the City of Poulsbo enacted the city council committee system in 1997, many of the faces remained the same through the years. But now all that has changed.

After reviewing the suggested committee assignments by then Mayor-elect Kathryn Quade, the council gave its blessing to her picks at its Dec. 21, 2005 meeting.

The council’s finance/administration and public works committees have totally different looks in 2006 as no members from 2005 will serve on either.

Instead of a public works committee led by Councilmen Dale Rudolph and Jim Henry, Councilmen Ed Stern, Jeff McGinty and Mike Regis will take on those responsibilities.

Both McGinty and Regis have previously served on that committee, while Stern has not.

Rudolph and Henry will join Councilwoman Connie Lord on the finance/administration committee marking the first time since the committee system was implemented that Stern has not served in that capacity.

Stern will, however, remain on the community services committee along with Lord and Regis.

Council newcomer Kimberlee Crowder will join veteran councilmen Henry and Rudolph on the public safety/legal committee.

In other appointments, Quade replaced Rudolph as the city’s alternate to the Kitsap Regional Coordinating Committee with Stern. Rudolph had served in that position for 12 years under mayors Mitch Mitchusson and Donna Jean Bruce.

Stern is no stranger to the KRCC as he currently heads its broadband task force.

Quade recommended McGinty, who served as deputy mayor for much of Bruce’s tenure, be replaced by Rudolph, with Lord as the alternate.

Quade also requested that the positions of deputy mayor and alternate deputy mayor be rotated annually, but left that to the council’s discretion (see adjacent story).
