KINGSTON — A house near Little Boston Road was damaged after a pan of food left unattended on a stove caught fire Aug. 2.

The fire damaged some areas of the kitchen, attic and roof. Damage was limited after one of the residents returned to the house and used an extinguisher.

North Kitsap Fire & Rescue and the Poulsbo Fire Department were called to the rental house around 7 p.m. Crews arrived within six minutes to find light smoke coming from the house.

One of the residents told firefighters when he returned from the store he heard smoke alarms and found the pan on the stove on fire.

By the time the resident used the extinguisher, the fire had moved into the stove vent, causing damage in the attic and roof.
