Election forums:

The Bremerton Council PTSA is organizing a series of legislative candidate forums this month in anticipation of the Nov. 2 election.

The Oct. 15 forum will feature 23rd Legislative District candidates. The Oct. 22 forum will host 26th District candidates and the Oct. 29 round will bring candidates from the 35th District.

All three forums will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Norm Dicks Government Center in Bremerton. The candidates will field questions from the public.

Dog park volunteers sought:

The Silverdale Dog Park Stewardship seeks volunteers for upcoming work parties at the Silverdale Dog Park.

The next party will be from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 16 and will include planting donated trees and filling holes in the park. The following party will be from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 20, which will include adding compost to planters and planting donated plants.

Documentary to be screened:

The Bremerton School District will host a screening of the documentary, “Race to Nowhere: The Dark Side of America’s Achievement Culture” from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 26 at Bremerton High School. The event will include a discussion led by Superintendent Lester “Flip” Herndon after the film. Tickets are $15 at the door, $10 online at www.bremertonschools.org. The district will receive half of the proceeds if more than 100 people attend.

Senior singles mixer:

The Kitsap Senior Singles is hosting its fall potluck and game night at 1 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Bremerton Elks Picnic Shelter Building, 4131 Pine Road NE, Bremerton. Military officers luncheon:

The Kitsap Chapter of the Military Officer’s Association of America will hold its monthly luncheon at 11 a.m. Oct. 22, at the Elks Lodge, 4131 Pine Road NE, Bremerton. The program, which will begin at noon, will feature Katherine Ahl, of the Kitsap League of Women Voters.

Republican women:

Walt Le Couteur, executive director of the Bremerton Rescue Mission, will be the guest speaker at the the North Kitsap Republican Women’s meeting at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 19. The group meets at the Poulsbo Fire Station at the corner of Liberty Avenue and Highway 305 in Poulsbo.

Budget training for CK schools:

The Central Kitsap School District is hosting Budget Training 101 and 201 for staff, parents and community members wishing to learn more about the district’s budget writing process.

Budget Training 101 addresses where district resources come from and how they are distributed to schools and departments. Budget Training 201 is intended for employees whose responsibilities include budget monitoring.

Budget Training 101 will be held on from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct.20 in the Jenne-Wright Board Room, located at 9210 Silverdale Way NW. Budget Training 201 will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 28, also in the Jenne-Wright Board Room.

Fall festival in Chico:

The Chico Alliance Church is hosting its Fall Festival from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at 3670 Chico Way NW in Bremerton.

The event will include a bounce house, games, candy prizes, cake walk, pumpkin decorating and face painting.

Admission is free. Donations to the food bank will be accepted.

HEART SUPPORT GROUP:

Harrison Medical Center in Silverdale is hosting a heart and vascular support group from 3 to 5 p.m. Nov. 4.

The group, facilitated by Manager of Clinical Nutrition Lorie Mottram, is intended to help patients transition from coping to managing diabetes and glucose control. The free session will take place in the Orchid Room on the first floor of the Silverdale Branch, located at 1800 NW Myhre Rd.

BROWN BAG LUNCH:

Kitsap County Triple Play is hosting a brown bag lunch and presentation from noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 19 at the YWCA Community Room in Bremerton.

Triple Play is a group of domestic violence, chemical dependency and mental health professionals who network and cross-train. Triple Play leadership will give a presentation on how to build up the program.

YWCA is located at 905 Pacific Avenue in Bremerton.

GIVE BURNS THE BOOT:

The Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue Firefighters Association will accept donations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for the Give Burns the Boot campaign, which benefits burn prevention programs and services for burn survivors. Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue firefighters will be stationed at the Silverdale Red Apple on Silverdale Way and Safeway off Bucklin Hill Road collecting money for the Northwest Burn Foundation.

College fair in Seattle:

The Seattle National College Fair will be held from Nov. 14 and 15 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle. It will run from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 14 and 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 15. The fair allows students and parents to meet one-on-one with admission representatives from a wide range of national and international, public and private, two-year and four-year colleges and universities. Participants will learn about admission requirements, financial aid, course offerings, and campus environment, as well as other information pertinent to the college-selection process.
