Online voter registration deadline Oct. 10; wild mushroom show; Edward Jones grand opening.

Voter registration deadline Oct. 10

The deadline to register to vote ahead of the Nov. 8 election is Oct. 10 for those intending to register online or by mail.

County election departments will honor mail-in applications with an Oct. 11 postmark, since Oct. 10 is a  holiday.

In-person registration will be valid through Oct. 31.

“We want to encourage everyone to use the convenient and secure online registration at MyVote.wa.gov or to get their mail-in application postmarked very soon,” Secretary Kim Wyman said last week. “We thank our county partners for helping to enfranchise the voters of Washington.”

Edward Jones grand opening on Oct. 7

The financial services firm Edward Jones has hired Jennifer Zuver as the new financial advisor for Manette branch office located at 1100 Wheaton Way, Suite C.

Zuver is enthusiastic about taking over the office.

Zuver invites the public to join her at a grand opening celebration. The event will begin at 3 p.m. Oct. 7 at her office.

“I am excited to be opening an Edward Jones office in Manette, because I really see a need for the type of service we provide,” Zuver said. “This firm concerns itself exclusively with the needs of individual investors and small-business owners, and I’m happy to be bringing that kind of personalized service to this community.”

Wild mushroom show Oct. 30

The annual Kitsap Peninsula Mycological Society mushroom show is 1-5 p.m. Oct. 30 in the Presidents Hall at Kitsap County Fairgrounds, 1050 Fairgrounds Road NW, Bremerton. See prime examples of over 150 wild mushrooms gathered from around the Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas.

Attendees can view displays of edible and inedible mushrooms, learn how mushrooms are used as dyes and in medicines, engage the kids in mushroom-related crafts, have a taste of the region’s fabulous Chanterelles and purchase books and self made or commercial kids for growing edible mushrooms at home.

Attendance is free; donations accepted.

Medicinal uses of mushrooms lecture Oct. 13

The monthly meeting of the Kitsap Peninsula Mycological Society will be 7-9 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Chico Alliance Church, 3670 Chico Way NW, Bremerton.

David Sumerlin of Fungi Perfecti will be the speaker, talking about the medicinal uses of mushrooms.

The meeting is open to visitors and is free, though donations are accepted.

AAA driver improvement course Oct. 22

The AAA Driver Improvement Program is offering its refresher course on defensive driving skills. The course gives practical guidance for traffic accident prevention and enhances driver safety and confidence. Successful course completion qualifies drivers 55 or older for auto insurance discounts.

The course will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Crista Shores Retirement Community, 1600 NW Crista Shores, Silverdale.

Kitsap Business Forum meets Oct. 11

The October meeting of the Kitsap Business Forum (KBF) is 7-9 a.m. Oct. 11 at the Silverdale Beach Hotel.

Attendees will learn tools, tips and techniques of possibility thinking to assist in the process of moving from concrete thinking to expanding their minds to see possibilities. In addition, they will have immediate opportunity to apply these newly learned skills.
