Community breakfast proceeds will go to mental health services, crisis line

KINGSTON — North Kitsap Fire & Rescue firefighters and staff are inviting the public to join them in marking the solemn anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks at a free community breakfast on Thursday from 7–10 a.m.

NKF&R firefighters have hosted this event on Sept. 11 every year since the 2001 attacks. The goal has been to bring neighbors together to share light continental fare and to support an important cause in memory of the thousands who lost their lives on that September morning.

Funds have been raised for the North Kitsap Schools Foundation, local cooperative preschools, Kingston High School PTA, the Red Cross, the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society, the YWCA Alive Shelter, and others.

This year, touched by the death of actor-comedian Robin Williams and reminded once again about the potentially lethal effects of depression, firefighters have chosen the local Crisis Line and Kitsap Mental Health Services as their 2014 beneficiary. The light continental breakfast is free, but donations to support the cause will be accepted.
