In the last week Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies have investigated two incidents at Central Kitsap Schools.

A 16-year-old Westside Alternative School student said a man tried to grab her as she walked near the intersection of Bucklin Hill Road and Silverdale Way.

The incident was reported to have occurred Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. according to Deputy Scott Wilson with the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.

The girl was walking home after her school session had ended when a man stepped out from the bushes and started walking alongside her. The girl said the man grabbed her arm and asked her if he could give her a ride in his pickup truck.

The girl pulled away from the man and kept walking.

The man was reported to be 5’7”, 30-40 years old, with a thin build and long hair. He was reported to be wearing a black shirt, brown vest, bluejeans and brown work boots. He drove away in a gold or brown 1990s Toyota extended cab pickup truck.

Wilson said the girl did the right thing by yelling and pulling away. He said events such as this one should be reported immediately.

The school district posted pedestrian safety tips on its website advising students to walk in a group or with a trusted adult and to quickly move away from strangers who follow them.

In an unrelated incident on Oct. 30, sheriff’s deputies investigated a rumor that a Fairview Junior High student was going to bring a gun to the school.

An administrator from Fairview Junior High School called 9-1-1 to report the rumor at 7:36 a.m. A sheriff’s deputy arrived at the school at 7:42 a.m. to investigate and detectives arrived soon after that.

After investigating, detectives determined that non-specific threats were made by a student from the school. However there was no threat to bring a gun to the school.

The student involved was identified and spoken with. No arrests were made and sheriff’s office investigators will be forwarding a report to the Kitsap County Prosecuting Attorney for review. Three deputies were assigned to the school to provide an increased presence during the investigation.
