City offices close March 26 to prepare for move

POULSBO — Moving day is on the horizon for city employees.

Poulsbo City Hall will be closed on Friday, March 26, in preparation of the move to the new building. City Hall will be officially closed and the doors locked but staff will answer phones and any immediate issues that may arise. Developments with the new City Hall are progressing, Project Manager Richard Potter said last week.

Potter, a private contractor with the city, said the project is on target for the planned move the first week in September.

Bids were open yesterday for the furniture — about 90 percent of the furniture will be replaced — and work has begun on the electrical infrastructure, insulation and roof.

While the employees’ basic needs will be met, Poulsbo Mayor Becky Erickson acknowledged there were many requests for goods that will not be realized.

There are “always lots of wishes for many things,” Erickson said.

Council members also:

• Discussed the North Kitsap cold weather shelter activated for the first time on Monday at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo. Councilwoman Connie Lord said it was “50 percent successful, and 50 percent not.”

The volunteers showed up for their shifts, but no one actually showed up to the shelter.

“It was hard to get the word out in time,” Lord said.

The shelter will be available if the temperature drops below freezing for more than four hours.

• Lauded the Poulsbo Historic Society’s work on “The Spirit of Poulsbo,” a book documenting Poulsbo’s history.

Councilman Dale Rudolph was “stunned by the graphics in this book.”

A “Spirit of Poulsbo” book signing is slated for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Central Market Saturday, March 13.

The book has currently sold 600 copies and is only available at the Poulsbo Book Stop in downtown Poulsbo.

Portions of the book proceeds have gone toward the Poulsbo Historical Society.
