City could explore sponsorships for pedestrian trail

The city of Port Orchard may look to corporate sponsors and local service clubs to fund benches, lighting and similar elements along the proposed Bay Street Pedestrian Pathway.

The city of Port Orchard may look to corporate sponsors and local service clubs to fund benches, lighting and similar elements along the proposed Bay Street Pedestrian Pathway.

As the path winds around, it will create leftover space, said City Councilman Jerry Childs, and those spaces create opportunities for benches or other features for the pathway.

He plans to informally mention the idea to a spokesman Puget Sound Energy at an upcoming concervency fundraiser and hopes that the company will sponsor environmentally friendly lighting along the pathway.

Childs mentioned the idea at a finance committee meeting Friday, and the committee discussed it briefly.

At the end of the discussion, the committee came to the consensus that they would support tactful lighting along the pathway, sponsored by Puget Sound Energy.

The Port Orchard City Council hasn’t yet discussed the details about Child’s idea, and he hasn’t mentioned it to any potential donors — yet.
