Diane worked for several years at American Marine Bank on Bainbridge Island and was known by all as the “Bainbridge Island Woods Witch.” Diane loved gardening, shopping, doing crossword puzzles, making people laugh, and was the “cat lady” with seven feline friends. She was an animal lover too. She loved the Christmas holiday, especially her flocked, pretty-in-pink tree.

Diane was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; daughter, Pamela; and son, Kevin. Diane is survived by her son, Scott Shutes (Molly); daughter, Suzanne Kettel (Craig); stepdaughters, Linda Luckerath, Mary Welch (Keith); five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Donations can be made to the Kitsap Humane Society. There will be a celebration of her life on June 26, 2 p.m., at Kitsap Lake Mobile Home Park Clubhouse, 6201 Price Road NW in Bremerton.

Her legendary defiance served her well to the end.
