BREMERTON — Just before 2 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, Bremerton Police officers responded to Sylvan Way and Halverson Avenue for a report of a crash.

Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle that had struck a house. The lone occupant of the residence, a 31-year-old man, had been sleeping in his bed at the time of the collision.

The vehicle crashed through the bedroom wall and stuck the victim, who suffered significant injuries to his face and abdomen. The victim was taken by air to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Officers located the driver of the vehicle, who remained at the scene. The driver cooperated with the investigation, and admitted to taking prescription medication and smoking marijuana earlier in the evening. He provided a voluntary blood sample, and was evaluated by a drug recognition expert.

Officers determined that the driver had been traveling southbound on Petersville Road and ran the stop sign at Sylvan Way. The driver continued southbound through a yard before going down an embankment and striking the victim’s residence.

Following the investigation, the driver was taken into custody for vehicular assault and booked into the Kitsap County Jail. The victim is listed in stable condition, and will likely require surgery for his facial injuries.
