The Wizard of Oz: The Central Stage Theatre of County Kitsap will perform the musical “The Wizard of Oz” which opens Friday, Feb. 11 and runs through Sunday, March 6. Adult tickets cost $15; seniors, students, teachers and active duty military tickets cost $12 and tickets for children 11 years and younger are $10. Local Kitsap County actors ranging from age 4 to adults began rehearsing in December.

Bremerton open house on improvements to Pacific Avenue:

The city of Bremerton will host an open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Council Chambers of the Norm Dicks Government Center, 345 Sixth Street, Bremerton to address and answer questions on construction projects to Pacific Avenue from Sixth Street to 11th Street. Points to be discussed will include street parking options, traffic control during construction and underground conversion of electric power and communication service lines to commercial and residential properties.

Quilt show at Kitsap County Fairgrounds:

The Kitsap Quilters will have its 25th anniversary quilt show, Silver Threads, Feb. 18 and 19 at the President’s Hall at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. The show will be held from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Abut 24 vendors will be present and there will also be demonstrations on quilting techniques.

Retired U.S. Navy lieutenant commander speaker at museum:

The Naval Undersea Museum will host retired Lt. Cmdr. Donald Davis at 2 p.m. Feb. 19 as part of the museum’s Distinguished Speakers Series. Davis was a corpsman with the first U.S. Navy SEAL team in Vietnam and will speak about his novel, “SEAL Doc,” a story based on those experiences. His presentation will be followed by a book signing and refreshments. For more information, call (360) 396-5547.

Central Kitsap School District kindergarten registration begins:

The Central Kitsap School District will begin registration for kindergarten for the 2011-2012 school year Feb. 22. A child must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31 to be eligible to enroll in kindergarten. Bring a copy of the child’s stated-issued birth certificate, proof of immunization and verification of current address to the elementary school between 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in order to register. Central Kitsap Community Council meeting:

The Central Kitsap Community Council will hold a regular meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Water and Fire District Community Room, 5300 NW Newberry Hill Road, Silverdale. The meeting will include presentations from Central Kitsap School District Superintendent Greg Lynch on the results of the district’s capital projects levy and Tina Nelson with Kitsap County Public Works on the status of design work for the roundabout at the intersection where Silverdale Way and Newberry Hill Road meet Chico Way. Steve Heacock and Chris May will also discuss surface and stormwater management projects in Central Kitsap and plans for the Schold Farm property. Group cycling Saturday:

The West Sound Cycle club will host its weekly Saturday ride Feb. 12. The ride will begin at the Saint Charles Anglican Church at 9 a.m. Cyclists will ride to Port Ludlow and back with the entire trip being 35 miles.
