A group of Ohio Avenue neighbors in Bremerton ran down a suspected car prowler Sunday after watching the 28-year-old male attempt to break into their cars parked along the street.

Police were called to a vehicle prowl in progress in the 1500 block of Ohio Avenue at about 8:25 p.m. Sunday, according to Bremerton police reports. There, a 25-year-old female witness told police she saw the suspect inside her 44-year-old male neighbor’s vehicle after he looked into another vehicle on the street. She reported the incident to her 40-year-old boyfriend, who went outside to confront the suspect. The suspect ran northbound, leaving behind the bicycle he used to ride to that location.

The 40-year-old and other neighbors chased after the suspect, caught him and walked him back to the area where he was spotted.

One neighbor, a 25-year-old male, said the suspect rummaged through his glove box but took nothing. Another 40-year-old male, said the suspect took his girlfriend’s ATM card from his car. None of the residents knew the suspect.

The suspect was arrested and transported to Kitsap County Jail for second-degree theft and second-degree vehicle prowling.
