Bremerton house fire results in one death

First firefighters on the scene find a house fully engulfed with flames

One man died in a house fire early Sunday morning.

Ileana LiMarzi, spokeswoman for Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue said a call was received at 4:50 p.m. in reference to a structure fire in the 6600 block of NE Wellsly Place.

When firefighters arrived, they found the single family home to be fully engulfed.  The call was immediately upgraded to a two alarm fire, LiMarzi said.

Initial reports indicated there may have been someone inside. After an extensive defensive attack on the fire, LiMarzi said crews were able to enter the home and search for victims. An adult male was found deceased in the living room area.

Four other adults and three children had also been inside, but evacuated safely. LiMarzi said the deceased man did not live at the residence. The victim’s name was not released.

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office and the County Fire Marshal are on scene to conduct an investigation.

The Bremerton Red Cross is assisting the family. A fire chaplain with Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue  was at the scene to help the family.

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue received mutual aid from the Bremerton Fire Department and Navy Region Northwest.

More information will be released  as it becomes available.
