Bond Road car lot must go

The intersection of Bond Road and Stottlemeyer-Gunderson seems to bring out the very worst in North Kitsap drivers. Too often are there close calls. Too often are there ambulances screaming down the stretch to a two-car injury accident or a fatality.

The intersection of Bond Road and Stottlemeyer-Gunderson seems to bring out the very worst in North Kitsap drivers. Too often are there close calls. Too often are there ambulances screaming down the stretch to a two-car injury accident or a fatality.

This dangerous situation is only made worse by what appears to be a growing used car lot. Cars, trucks, vans and even boats and RVs are being parked at the corner of Bond and Stottlemeyer with hopes of catching the eye of passing motorists. The problem is, they are and this might be the worst place in North Kitsap to put such a distraction.

What’s next?

Huge balloons, free coffee and popcorn? Maybe a bunch of quick-talking salesmen waiting for drivers to pull in?

Hopefully, it won’t come to that.

This lot is becoming more than an eyesore, it’s becoming an outright hazard. A moment’s glance from the highway at that intersection is often all it takes for an incident to occur. A moment’s hesitation from punching the brake could be the difference between a close call and an injury accident.

Or worse.

Just ask some of the thousands of motorists who travel Bond each day. Stories of crashes and near misses are more than plentiful. They’ll only become more numerous if this lot continues to grow.

Kitsap County needs to step up to the plate on this one and keep what is already a bad situation from getting any worse. This car lot simply should not be allowed at such a busy and dangerous intersection.
