Bail $100K in Poulsbo DUI, elude case

A Kitsap County Superior Court trial is set for Jan. 9 for a 45-year-old Tacoma man being held on $100,000 bail.

He is charged with felony driving under the influence and attempting to elude police. He is facing up to 15 years in prison and/or $30,000 in fines.

On Aug. 5, 2022, a woman at the Clearwater Casino reported her car stolen at about 3 a.m. A Poulsbo police officer saw the car racing by and tried to stop it. The vehicle increased its speed to 70 miles per hour on Highway 305.

Another officer said the suspect drove 1.25 miles in the wrong lane at up to 75 mph.

Officers were ordered to disengage but followed until the vehicle went into a dead end at the Olympic College parking lot in Poulsbo. Road spikes were placed on the only escape route. Suddenly the stolen vehicle raced by, with the spikes deflating its tires.

The vehicle went down another dead-end road, driving through a locked metal gate at Snyder Park.

In the car, police found a bottle of Captain Morgan rum and many bottles of Mike’s Hard Lemonade, along with a pipe commonly used to smoke illegal narcotics.

Officers detained the suspect, who was hiding in a blackberry bush 15 feet from the car.
