POULSBO — Countless hours of hard work by outgoing North Kitsap High School seniors during their tenures paid off. Big time.
Tuesday night, 87 members of the class of 2007 were formally recognized during the annual NKHS Scholarship and Awards Night at the North Kitsap School District Auditorium. The final take before the students attend various colleges, universities and technical schools across the United States? An astounding $1.5 million.
“It was a great night. It was short and sweet,” coordinator Michelle Jones said. “Everything ran smoothly and many students were recognized for their achievements. By the end of the night it came to about $1.5 million in the amount of money that was doled out for scholarships.”
Jones said the audience was packed with parents, family and other supporters.
“We had 300 programs for people attending and we ran out of programs,” she said. “There were a lot of people there supporting our students. Everybody was excited. It was a wonderful night.”
Jones said some people in attendance even came from out of state to share in the celebration.
“We had an NK alumnus come up from California and had someone come down from Anchorage, Alaska for the scholarship and awards night,” she said.
