POULSBO — Poulsbo City Council member Linda Berry-Maraist said on Dec. 10 that her last day on the council would be Jan. 21.

After she made that announcement, the council set an application period for residents who might be interested in completing Berry-Maraist’s term.

But as of Jan. 8 at 11 a.m., there was one applicant, according to the City Clerk’s office.

Kati Diehl of the City Clerk’s office couldn’t confirm the applicant’s name, but Hunter McIntosh, a resident of the Viking Avenue area, said on Jan. 7 that he had submitted his application earlier this week.

McIntosh has lived in Poulsbo for two years, but his family’s company — The Boat Company, a non-profit that provides educational tours of southeast Alaska — has had an office in Poulsbo for more than two decades.

McIntosh said he has degrees in political science and communications from Sacred Heart University, and served on three city commissions in Alexandria, Virginia.

He advocates beautifying and rezoning Viking Avenue to attract new development; mixed-use commercial and residential development near Olympic College Poulsbo to accommodate new students; helping the Poulsbo Farmers Market find a permanent home; and exploring ways the city and port can work together to improve the downtown economy.

The application deadline is Jan. 15. The City Council will interview applicants on Jan. 24. The term will begin upon appointment by the council and will expire upon certification of the results of the Nov. 3 election.

City Council members are elected to four-year terms and receive $6,000 a year. The council approves the annual budget, local laws, and policies.

The council meets the first, second and third Wednesday of the month, but council members also provide a voice for the city on other local and regional committees.
