As grassroots as it can get

Overlooked. Paved over. Torn down. Built on. Dumped into ... the list of things we’ve done to the environment in North Kitsap definitely goes on and on. But as new houses are seemingly created every time we turn around, so, in some areas, is new hope.

Overlooked. Paved over. Torn down. Built on. Dumped into … the list of things we’ve done to the environment in North Kitsap definitely goes on and on. But as new houses are seemingly created every time we turn around, so, in some areas, is new hope. Organizers of Bio Blast are just a few of those in our community providing it but the fashion in which they will accomplish the feat this Saturday in Poulsbo is certainly noteworthy.

Why? Residents of Austurbruin host the event not to bring attention to what we’re doing wrong to Mother Nature but rather how we can start doing things right to improve our relationship with the land and its “other” inhabitants. Bio Blast focuses on both the big and small, from trees to insects with the aim of creating a better understanding — for both kids and adults — of the role we play in this balancing act. It’s a grand thing to see that these neighbors, having no motive other than to educate, not only got this grassroots train on the track last year but are ensuring it continues full steam ahead.
