Kitsap Humane Society (KHS) will host its annual meeting April 12, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Oxford Suites in Silverdale. The public is invited to attend.

The meeting will be an opportunity to meet Natalie Smith, newly-hired director of animal welfare. Smith takes over for Robin Simons who left to pursue other opportunities after two years at KHS.

After conducting a national search, Smith comes to KHS with more than six years in management and leadership roles with the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia – a large, open-admission, municipal shelter handling over 30,000 animals per year.

Her roles there included Director of Life Saving and Prevention programs, where she successfully increased adoption, foster care and rescue transfers of animals.

At KHS, Smith will oversee all shelter operations, including eight programs: Animal Care, Foster Care, Customer Service, Adoption Outreach, Canine Behavior, Feline Behavior, Dog Transfers and Volunteer Management.

Jennifer Stonequist, director of shelter medicine, will speak about Kitsap Humane Society’s Future Vision, including the rescue and relocation of animals through the Dog Transfer Program.

Board president Gerry Porter, Executive Director Eric Stevens and KHS managers will give an annual report detailing the progress made during the past year.

An audience question and answer period will be followed by the 2014 board officer elections. Refreshments will be served.
