SEATTLE — The American Red Cross Western Washington has announced the selection of Dawn Angelo as its new Regional Chief Executive Officer. Angelo succeeds Randy Hutson, who retired at the end of February.

“We are truly pleased to have Dawn in this vital role,” said Jonelle Johnson, chair of the chapter’s board of directors. “She has a long history with the Red Cross and demonstrated success in cultivating relationships with diverse communities, strengthening government partnerships and increasing community preparedness.”

Angelo is former Regional CEO of the American Red Cross Capital Region Chapter headquartered in Sacramento, Calif.  There she played a pivotal role in overseeing the consolidation of four different Red Cross chapters to strengthen the delivery of services across 24 counties in Northern California, and leading the first-ever ‘Sacramento Ready’ emergency preparedness initiative, launched by Mayor Kevin Johnson.

She began her Red Cross career in 2007 serving as Executive Director for the Inland Northwest Region headquartered in Spokane, WA. “I am so honored to be in this new role with the Red Cross and excited to return to my Red Cross roots in Washington,” Angelo said. “I look forward to getting to know the local community, engaging our volunteer network and strengthening our region’s capacity to respond during times of disaster or emergency.”

As Regional CEO, Dawn will oversee a total of nine counties serving more than 3.5 million people.  “She is exceptionally qualified and her passion for the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross will ensure we continue to provide essential services to the community,” added Johnson.

Previously, Angelo worked with Catholic Charities and Volunteers of America based out of Minnesota. She lives in Seattle and assumed her new Red Cross role on April 15.
