Alleged bomb threat prompts closure of Bremerton library

A 29-year-old man was arrested in Bremerton and is being held on $50,000 bail after allegedly making a bomb threat at the Bremerton branch of the Kitsap Regional Library on Wednesday.

According to a statement of probable cause from the Bremerton Police Department, David Erks was reportedly heard saying, “I smoked some meth with Fentanyl in it and I’m going to kill everyone in the library.” Before leaving the library, Erks reportedly affirmed his previous statement by saying, “I’m going to get my supplies.”

Erks’ statements prompted a library patron to approach an employee and discretely pass a note which read: “The guy in front of me is going to kill everyone in the library, call 911.”

Per protocol, the branch manager evacuated the library and locked the building. Responding officers received testimony from the branch manager, employee and the patron who allegedly identified the individual as Erks.

Officers contacted Erks later near a convenience store, where he allegedly attempted to evade officers as they were making contact. After being detained, Erks reportedly told officers that when he becomes upset he has a habit of saying things aloud.

“I can’t see my kid and I feel like killing everyone,” Erks allegedly told officers before adding that earlier that day he had smoked marijuana laced with fentanyl. Erks reportedly denied having said anything about a bomb.

Erks faces one charge of felony harassment — threat to kill, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison or a $10,000 fine.
