A turn in the right direction

Kitsap Transit’s plan for a foot ferry to Kingston may be resting at the bottom of the Puget Sound for now but that doesn’t mean folks in the Little City by the Sea should despair.

Your friends, neighbors and businesses have thrived here in North Kitsap for years and a small setback like this should be taken as such. Proof that the community is doing well is present everywhere one looks.

The downtown district is healthier and as vibrant as ever and it looks as if the rich traditions of good works will be getting even richer as business owners there plan to add their own Rotary chapter.

The chapter is long overdue and is evidence that — foot ferry or not — Kingston businesses are doing well enough to give something back to the community that supports them.

With more than 30 members hoping to charter the club, it’s already spinning in the right direction for the North End and across the globe as well as new members will soon discover. While Rotarians do their fair share of improving the communities they live in, they are quick to lend a hand to those in need throughout the world.

The Kingston-North Kitsap Rotary deserves a shot. It’s an idea whose time has definitely come. The small town is more than ready for it.

Rotary International calls itself “A global network of community volunteers.”

One would be hard pressed to find a finer community for the organization to get its wheels of improvement turning than Kingston.
