Drunk driver
At 1:55 a.m. April 16, a Bremerton man was pulled over on suspicion of drunken driving after a police officer witnessed his vehicle swerve over the center line and drift onto the shoulder multiple times. The man appeared intoxicated during the traffic stop, having watery and bloodshot eyes while fumbling through his belongings to find his drivers license. He admitted to drinking a “few” beers and agreed to take a series of field sobriety tests, failing every one. The man was arrested on DUI and booked into Kitsap County jail on $5,000 bail. The man logged a .157 blood-alcohol content at police headquarters later that morning.
Strange people lurk in the woods
At 12:02 a.m. on April 15, a Bremerton police officer responded to a woman’s complaint that she was assaulted by a man in the woods near the Bremerton Lanes Bowling Alley. The woman said “Sean”, a transient living in the woods behind the Enterprise-Rent-A-Car off Auto Center Way, had assaulted her during an argument. The woman said she had planned to stay in the woods with “Sean” and two other friends for the rest of the night, until she left to Seattle for work the following morning, but had left after the confrontation. An officer visited the woods, finding “Sean’s” two friends, but wasn’t able to find “Sean.” The incident is under investigation.
The creepy man with no memory
At 4:16 p.m. April 15, two Bremerton women reported stalking. The women said a man had followed them for nearly a mile, continually yelling in their direction and asking them questions. The responding officer contacted the suspect, who claimed he had done no wrongdoing. He admitted to asking the girls for the time of day but denied any additional contact. The man, however, wore a watch on his wrist and when asked why he needed the time, he claimed he “smokes weed for a living and forgets things.” The man then claimed to be en route to his friend “Will’s” house, but couldn’t provide “Will’s” last name, phone number or adress. The man’s responses, along with the complaints from the women, were reason enough to deem him not credible and arrest him for harassment. He was booked into jail on $5,000 bail.
Panic behind
the wheel
A non-injury hit-and-run was reported on Auto Center Way at 4:20 p.m. April 15. The suspect, driving a silver Chevrolet pick-up truck, fled the scene. A street light, Bremerton city street sign and a telecommunications box were damaged in the collision. Debris from the vehicle’s grill and headlights were strewn across the road about 20 feet north of the collision site. An officer later witnessed the vehicle, matching witnesses’ description, pulled over on Chico Way with two blown out tires. The man admitted to the crime, claiming he simply panicked after hitting the city property. He was booked into jail on hit-and-run unattended charges. Bail was set at $5,000.
