Five-finger discount at the video store
An employee of the Blockbuster Video on Kitsap Way called police at 10:19 p.m. April 1, reporting two teenagers had stolen between eight and 12 DVDs off the store’s “new releases” rack. The employee said the suspects — one male and one female — entered the store together. The male suspect inquired about an I-pod for sale, distracting the clerk, while the female suspect shoveled movies into her purse. After the female had sufficiently stocked up, the male exited the store and let his counterpart through the entrance door, allowing her to bypass the security alarm, and the two fled on foot. The employee asked the suspects to stop, to no avail, and the thieves got away. An officer dispatched to the scene requested the store’s surveillance video. The tapes will be reviewed in an attempt to identify the suspects. The DVDs are believed to be valued at approximately $100.
Motherly squabbles
A Bremerton woman called police at 7:46 a.m. April 1, complaining that the foster mother of her three biological children had harassed her over the telephone. The Bremerton woman said she received a call from the foster mother — of Port Townsend — in the wee hours of that morning, around 3 a.m. The PT woman, according to the biological mother, sounded drunk and claimed she would never again let the three children around their mother. Police contacted the foster mother later that day at her place of employment in Port Townsend, questioned her and discovered she had actually been the victim of phone harassment. She said, in fact, that the Bremerton woman had called her more than 100 times at work the previous day and an additional 150 times at home, most of the time screaming. Additionally, the Bremerton woman had followed a fourth child — biological to the PT woman — home from school one day, attempting to find her own children. The PT woman denied making the 3 a.m. phone call and claimed the Bremerton woman to have drug problems and an extensive criminal background. The incident is still under investigation.
‘Jumped’ at the mini-mart
A Bremerton woman called police at 4:33 p.m. March 31, reporting her boyfriend had been “jumped” by three males outside the 7/11 on Park Avenue. The caller said the suspects fled in a white Acura. According to the police report, the confrontation began when the three suspects asked the victim about a car part he had for sale. The victim was hit by all three of the suspects, ending up with a bloody nose and lip and marks on his neck. A witness intervened, breaking the scuffle apart, and the suspects fled the scene. The victim said he knew one of the suspects, but not the other two. The incident is under investigation.
Just for a dollar?
At 11:02 a.m. on March 31, a man called police after spotting two teenage boys trying to steal money out of the meter box at a Diamond parking lot near 4th Street and Pacific Avenue. The caller said one of the boys acted as a “lookout” while the other pried the boxes open. An officer responded, found the suspects and interrogated each individually. The officer found three pieces of metal near the parking lot, which the suspects used to get into the meter boxes. The boys eventually admitted to the crime, claiming they needed gas money, but had only managed to steal $1. They handed the dollar over. The case was forwarded to prosecutors.
