One person suffered significant burn injuries and four others escaped following a house fire on NW Cascade Street in Silverdale early July 16.
The injured person, identified as James Bonsell Williams, was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening burns. His wife and three children were able to make it out of the house safely, says a GoFundMe account set up for the family. They lost everything, including their two cars, to the fire.
A firefighter was transported to St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale with non-life-threatening injuries, per a Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue news release. At one point, neighbors were evacuated from their homes as a precaution because the fire was so large, and there was a risk of extension to their residences, per CKF&R.
Structure fire investigated as arson
A firefighter was injured and nine people were displaced following a structure fire the night of July 16 at 4091 NW Country Lane in Bremerton, which is being investigated as possible arson.
Initial reports indicated flames were seen coming from the roof and it was possibly started by fireworks, a CKF&R news release says. Crews arrived on scene to the five-plex building and observed that the attic was fully on fire. It took about 70 minutes to bring the fire completely under control. Bremerton Fire and Navy Region Northwest firefighters also responded to provide mutual aid.
The fire had started on one side of the structure, ran up the side to the open attic and then along the length of the building, per CKF&R. All five units were destroyed. Several witnesses on scene indicated that they knew who started the fire.
A CKF&R firefighter was injured when ceiling material fell on top of him. He was transported to St. Michael Medical Center for evaluation and was released a few hours later. Red Cross has been dispatched to help with the individuals and families of the five units that were dispatched due to fire and water damage. There were no civilian injuries.
