Ribbon-cutting ceremony for renovated Navy housing Aug. 20

A ribbon cutting for renovated Navy housing will take place 1 p.m. Aug. 20, 71 Olding Road, Bremerton.

The ceremony will officially commemorate the renovated U.S. Navy family housing complex, The Landings, formerly known as Jackson Park, which is located between Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, and Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor.

Scheduled speakers include Mayor Patty Lent, Rear Admiral Jeffrey Ruth, Capt. Mark Geronime, Capt. Thomas Zwolfer and John Ehle of Forest City Military Communities.

The Landings will be 624 housing units when the project is complete in 2018, and will include a maintenance facility, community center and leasing office, known as Landings Central, reusing a former Navy weapons bunker on site.

In partnership with the U.S. Navy, Forest City Military Communities is investing $50 million into the neighborhood construction and amenities upgrades in The Landings and other family housing neighborhoods related to the base. Almost all contractors and designers involved in the project have been locally based.
