Wailing on the waterfront

Clearwater Casino’s free summer concert series fires up this Thursday on the shores of Agate Pass.

Gearing up for the third season of its Performances at the Passage summer concert series, organizers at the Clearwater Casino say the breathtaking views are only the beginning.

Situated behind the Clearwater Casino Resort, the venue for Performances at the Passage is incredibly serene — a secluded, sweeping event lawn over-looking Agate Pass with views of Rainier and the Cascade mountains on a clear day.

Undeniably attractive, the resort added its own built-in stage at the front of the lawn as the concert series gained popularity in its two years. Performances at the Passage began in 2005 providing free summer evening concerts for both resort guests and the general public. Now into year three, the series welcomes back a few familiar faces, a few new up-and-coming Northwest artists and a whole lot of cover bands for its 2008 roster.

It all gets started this Thursday with a party band that’s been a fixture on the series from the beginning — Garratt Wilkin and the Parrotheads, a Jimmy Buffet tribute.

Widely regarded as the top Buffet tribute band on the West Coast, the Parrotheads are as well-known for their margarita-drinkin’, Hawaiian-shirt-wearing party music as the man himself. They join a slew of cover bands slated for this year — including new Neil Diamond, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Jimi Hendrix tributes and the Northwest powerhouse Hell’s Belles AC/DC tribute and Danny Vernon Elvis impersonator extraordinaire.

All concerts start at 7 p.m., Thursdays, rain or shine, on the event lawn of the Clearwater Casino Resort, located on the Kitsap side of Agate Pass Bridge in Suquamish. Free and for all ages. Info: www.clearwatercasino.com and select entertainment or call the casino at (360) 598-8700.
