Stillwaters events cover toxins, tree grafts, rain gardens

“Toxins We All Live With” is the topic of an event at 7 p.m. April 24 at the North Kitsap Fire & Rescue headquarters station, 26442 Miller Bay Road, Kingston. Dr. Sunny Gill of Kingston Crossing Chiropractic will speak about the effects of toxins on the environment and individual health, and introduce natural and healthy solutions. Many of the toxins are found in homes, yards and medicine cabinets. Materials and snacks will be provided. Cost is a $10 donation to Stillwaters Environmental Education Center. “Tree Grafting for Bumper Crops,” will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 26 at Stillwaters, 26059 Barber Cut Off Road, Kingston. Get hands-on instruction and learn techniques for spring grafting – whip-and-tongue, cleft, modified t-slit and more. Chuck Estin will demonstrate these techniques at the Stillwaters campus (dress for the weather). There will be opportunities to practice and learn how to graft onto existing trees that aren’t producing. All materials and tools provided. Baby grafted trees will be available for $5 each. Learn about “Rain Gardens in Your Landscape” at a program 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 3 at Stillwaters. Learn how to design and install a rain garden with Kinley Deller of the Solid Waste Division of Metro King County. Participants will receive a Rain Garden Handbook with pictures and graphics describing how to design, build, plant and maintain a rain garden. Cost is $30 each or $45 per couple.
