– May 24, 10 a.m., Tolling the Boats, Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport.
Members and veterans of the submarine force in the Pacific Northwest will gather to honor those who served honorably and made the ultimate sacrifice. “Tolling the Boats” allows sailors to pause and remember shipmates who are on eternal patrol.
Capt. Brian Humm, commanding officer of USS Ohio (SSGN 726), will be the principal speaker. The bells will be tolled by Naval Undersea volunteer staff members who are submarine veterans.
The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. and a reception will follow. The event is open to the public.
– May 25, 2-4 p.m., Free performance by Country Capers. Bluewater Artworks in downtown Poulsbo hosts a free live performance on its stage by the local trio Country Capers. The members of Country Capers are Jane Landstra, Ken Embrey, and David Denz. They play Celtic, Scandinavian and Contra dance music.
Bluewater Artworks is located at 18961 Front St., Poulsbo.
– May 25-28: Series of concerts by The Independents. The Independents present three concerts open to the public: May 25, 3 p.m., at the Washington Veterans Home, Retsil; May 27, 7 p.m., at Crista Shores in Silverdale; and May 28, at the Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Bay Club in Port Ludlow.
The Independents is an all-volunteer four-part community chorus, comprised of accomplished local singers who are committed to presenting inspirational music that will encourage and uplift audiences of all ages. The group’s speciality is patriotic programs (complete with narrator and slide show presentations).
The Independents is directed by Pam Wenter. – May 26, 10:45 a.m., The Unforgotten, Run to Tahoma III. Veterans will receive the unclaimed remains of deceased veterans from the Kitsap County coroner in a brief ceremony and escort them in a cortege to Tahoma National Ceremony.
The event takes place outdoors at the coroner’s office, 5010 NW Linden Lane, which is next to Pendergast Park in West Bremerton. There is no seating, so bring a lawn chair and dress for the weather. When you arrive, following the signs for ceremony parking or joining the cortege line to Tahoma National Cemetery. There will be a 20- minute break following the ceremony and before the departure for Tacoma.
