Sound Brewery takes bronze | Kitsap Week

Poulsbo's Sound Brewery brings home bronze and Silverdale's Silver City Brewery brings home silver from the 2014 Great American Beer Festival.

Sound Brewery has been earning praise by the pint with its signature brews crafted in Poulsbo. The latest rave sent the brewery home with a bronze medal.

Sound’s Dubbel Entendre Belgian Style Dubbel claimed the bronze medal in the Belgian Style Abby Ale category at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival held in Denver this October.

Sound’s website touts the beer as having “comforting aromas of chocolate malt and dark toffee, with a hint of banana and stone fruits. A dark abbey style ale with a subtle rich maltiness and a dry, spicy finish.”

The 2014 competition at the Great American Beer Festival was steep. A total of 5,507 beers were entered in the festival, but only 268 medals were handed out. And a handful of those medals went to Northwest breweries.

Kitsap’s Silver City Brewing also took home a medal; most aptly a silver medal for its Old Scrooge in the Old Ale/Strong Ale category.

It’s not the first time Sound Brewery’s Dubbel Entendre has earned favor from judges. In 2012, it won the silver prize at the North American Brewers Association Awards.

Most recently, Craftbeer.com’s yearly 10 Awesome Beer Names took note of Dubbel Entendre, but not for its flavor. The blog finds the most interesting names from the Great American Beer Festival and puts them up for an online vote. Dubbel Entendre made the top 10 list, along side such brews as Darkside of the Pint, I’d like to Buy the Wold a Kolsch, Rye of the Tiger, Sweet Baby Jesus!, Lagerithm, and Jean-Claude Van Blond.
