Local band’s last performance to benefit for 8-year-old fighting leukemia.

In the ebb and flow of the local music scene, bands can come and go as quickly as the tide.

Often new bands and new songs are born of old members in the void, but it’s rare that a band exits on high note, especially one that isn’t purely self-serving.

Enter: the local DIY rap-rock group Redemption City, a selfless band that’s been around since 2007, alternating between a few different line ups during the short time period. The band’s original four members reunited early in 2009, but when they decided to call it quits for good, they still had a special date on the docket — May 2.

While marking the celebration of lead singer David Olivias’ 24th birthday, that was also the date of an Artists For Freedom and Unity benefit show for a local 8-year-old, Rebecca Fry, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

And so, they stuck it out for the cause.
