Kayaking, mountain biking and standup paddleboarding will be featured at the first ever NW Adventure Sports Expo and Film Festival, which runs May 8-9, in Port Gamble.

Outdoor enthusiasts and curious adventurers of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to “unleash the beast within.” Visitors can demo equipment, meet local paddling heroes, view the world’s best watersports films, join a mountain bike race and paddle across the Hood Canal. Participants can also bid on outdoor equipment.

“The Expo was created to get people excited about these sports and to bring together people from the biking and kayaking communities,” said John Kuntz, the creator of the expo and owner of the Olympic Outdoor Center and KayakProShop.com, in a press release. “This area has incredible natural resources and we want to help get people outside to enjoy them.”

The Reel Paddling Film Festival will show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 8, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 9. The “Best of the Best” films will play from 7-9:30 p.m. Saturday night. Films include “Facing East,” the story of China’s Yangtze River; “Falling,” which follows two legendary kayakers as they run the waterfalls of Agua Azul in Mexico; “Scotland to the Faeroes,” about two men who attempt to make a 180-nautical mile kayak crossing; and “Kayak Fishing: Game On 2,” which features big game kayak angler Jim Sammons in a three-hour battle with a 120-pound tuna.

Also at the expo, mountain bike and human-powered watercraft races for all experience levels begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by a silent auction from 6-7 p.m.
