Local author goes Opera
Local author Megan Chance, the critically acclaimed, award-winning author of 12 novels, will sign copies of her newest novel, “Prima Donna,” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13 at Liberty Bay Books in Poulsbo.
She’ll also sign copies at the showing of The Met’s “Carmen” at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16 at the Bainbridge Pavilion.
“Prima Donna” captures both the glittering decadence of 19th-century New York and the rough, raunchy waterfront of Seattle as the protagonist, Marguerite, is caught between two worlds and must find the strength to confront the truth of her past.
In addition to her historical fiction novels, Chance is the author of eight historical romance novels. Her novels have been translated into several languages.

Writers’ Roundtable features Barbara Winther
Author Barbara Winther will discuss the topic “Are Two Heads Better Than One?” from 7-8:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Field’s End Writers’ Roundtable at the Bainbridge Public Library, 1270 Madison Avenue North.
Barbara Winther writes children’s books, books for young adults, and books about local history. Her publications include dramatizations of stories and folktales. Winther also enjoys writing about current and historical events in her community. Her 2000 book “They Like Noble Causes” is an account of how Bainbridge Island came together as a community to build its local library. The story of the Bainbridge Public Library, the author states in the prologue to the book, “is what happens when people care and work together for the benefit of their community.” Most recently, Winther teamed up with Gary Loverich to write “Let It Go, Louie,” a book about the history of Croatian families in the Puget Sound area.
The monthly roundtable, free and open to writers of all levels and interests, takes place the third Tuesday of each month. The guest author introduces the topic, and then participants join in a Q & A period followed by a large group discussion. The evening closes with socializing, coffee and cookies.
