Kingston readies its kite strings

North End kite festival slated for March 29 at Mike Wallace Park.

new event this year, the first hosted by the Downtown Kingston Association, is set to celebrate spring with a sky full of kites.

But with organizers expecting more than 40 kids, let’s hope Mike Wallace Park doesn’t turn into one big knot of kite strings.

The first 40 kids to show up will receive free kite-making kits.

The free event — Kites over Kingston — is slated for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 29 at Mike Wallace Park in downtown Kingston. There will be kite-making activities, a kite and costume parade with prizes for the best coordinated kite and costume, and a jazzy soundtrack of live music from the Foggy Bottom Jazz Band and, of course, kite flying all day long.

In the event of inclement (or windless) weather, Kites over Kingston will commence the following weekend, at the same time April 5.
