The Kitsap Historical Museum will honor five local families who have kept it in Kitsap for more than 100 years.

“It’s a good way to appreciate the people who helped to form the county over the years, and their families,” said Megan Bradley with the Kitsap Historical Society & Museum.

The honored families include: the James Wesley Bryan family of Bremerton; the McBride/Albertson/Tjosdale family of Bainbridge Island; the James A. Thompson family of North Kitsap; the Dr. Francis Harlow family of Central Kitsap; and the Karl Oskar Holmberg family of South Kitsap.

The 2014 Heritage Families will be honored during the Fourth annual Heritage Family Banquet on Sept. 18 at Kiana Lodge in Suquamish.

Leonard Forsman, chairman of the Suquamish Tribe, will be the keynote speaker at the banquet. KIRO Radio 97.3 Anchor Frank Shiers will emcee the evening.

The five families are noted for having roots in the area for 100 years or more, and have made significant contributions to the community over the generations. The families also still have members living in Kitsap.

“It’s an event where the community nominates five Kitsap families, that are 100-year or more families,” Bradley said. “Five families are chosen and we celebrate their lives and community contributions.”

Bradley said the historical society accepts nominations for heritage families from the public over the year.
